Morala Private Game Lodge is an exclusive-use, family-friendly safari retreat located in the heart of the Big 5 Welgevonden Game Reserve, offering uninterrupted views across the reserve’s rolling hills and valleys. Designed for groups of friends or families seeking a private safari experience, the lodge is booked in its entirety and accommodates up to ten guests in five comfortable en-suite chalets. Each chalet features a king-size bed, private bathroom, study desk, armchair, and tea and coffee station, with two pairs of interleading units ideal for families with children. The main lodge area includes a spacious lounge, dining room, outdoor viewing deck, swimming pool, boma and braai area, providing the perfect indoor-outdoor living space for relaxation and shared moments around the fire.
Although Morala is a self-catering lodge, a resident cook prepares all meals using ingredients and beverages supplied by guests, offering the convenience of a fully serviced stay without the constraints of a set menu. Guests are free to work with the cook to plan meal times and dining locations, whether indoors or under the stars. A private game viewing vehicle and dedicated field guide are included, allowing you to enjoy exclusive morning and evening game drives at your own pace, complete with coffee stops at sunrise and sundowners at sunset. Daily housekeeping, fresh linen and towels ensure a comfortable stay throughout. As the lodge is unfenced, wildlife moves freely around the property, adding to the authentic bush atmosphere. Guests may walk between chalets and the main lodge during daylight hours, with staff escorts available after dark for safety.
With its private setting, personalised safari schedule, dedicated staff and breathtaking views, Morala Private Game Lodge offers an exceptional safari experience that blends flexibility, comfort and adventure—ideal for safari enthusiasts and families seeking quality time together in one of South Africa’s most beautiful Big 5 reserves.
The Welgevonden Game Reserve, located just three hours’ north of Johannesburg in the Limpopo Province’s Waterberg plateau, is one of the most ruggedly scenic reserves in South Africa, characterised by rolling hills, rugged gorges and grassy plains.
Aptly meaning ‘well found’, the Welgevonden is unlike anywhere else on earth, a true wilderness area with excellent game viewing and stunning scenery. Enjoy this mountain bushveld environment with roaring rivers and sweeping horizon views. The reserve is located at high altitude, enjoys a mild climate and is Malaria free making it worth a visit any time of the year.
As a result of the reserve’s diverse landscapes, visitors can enjoy Big Five sightings, in addition to encounters with over 50 mammal species, 250 bird species and some of the bush’s most beautiful wildflowers that make their appearance in early spring.
The Welgevonden also boasts one of Africa’s largest populations of white rhino on a private reserve, with such unusual species as brown hyena, aardwolf and aardvark also located within the reserve. The reserve has never been a hunting area and as such game viewing is up and close and personal. In addition to great game viewing, there is also ancient San Rock Art.
This is Africa at its most interesting and at its best.
