Simbavati Cederberg Ridge

Simabvati Cederberg Ridge is a luxury wilderness lodge offering outstanding food and hospitality. Set in a wholly unique area of rugged natural beauty, the lodge affords a panoramic view of the Cederberg Mountains. Your stay will be an authentic, away-from-it-all wilderness experience, yet within an easy two-hour drive from Cape Town and the Winelands. They offer luxurious accommodation and a range of activities and scenic excursions so that you may enjoy the Cederberg to its fullest. The lodge backs onto the wilderness area of the farm, so there’s an extensive distance to explore.

Warm and inviting interiors blend seamlessly with the use of wood, natural materials and neutral colours in a modern African farmhouse design with open-plan space and lofty, wood-beamed ceilings. Large French windows open onto a scene of staggering beauty, leading into the wilderness beyond. The untamed, natural beauty of the Cederberg area and the charming country lodge are uniquely desirable spaces. Lodge facilities include a sitting room with a bar, alibrary with a fireplace, a wealth of books and concealed TV, a spa with relaxation room, a large swimming pool with a pool terrace, garden and croquet lawn and a fire pit overlooking the Cederberg Mountains.

The lodge comprises 9 spacious rooms: 2 Classic rooms (wheelchair-friendly); 3 Luxury suites; and 4 Superior suites. It is its own separate lodge experience in this unique part of South Africa. Each air-conditioned suite has its own outdoor shower, indoor replace, private patio that overlooks the wilderness area of the farm. Rooms and suites are beautifully decorated with lots of wood and natural textures.

The lodge makes it easy for you to enjoy the natural beauty of the Cederberg with a range of excursions and activities on offer. Join them on guided excursions into the high Cederberg Mountains or delightful road trips to scenic beach restaurants on the West Coast. Sample world-acclaimed wines at the lodge or lay back and enjoy the velvety star draped Cederberg night sky and storytelling at the fire-pit then retreat into your suite to be pampered with a spa treatment.

The lodge offers a seasonal programme of activities to take into account both the climate and seasonal attractions. These include a mix of active and more leisurely pursuits. However, there are always at least two activities on offer each day, often more.

All activities included if your booking is full board & activity basis. Guests booked on a DBB basis are welcome to join the activities. Please sign up at reception/office. This is subject to availability of spare places on the excursion or activity. Most excursions or activities have a maximum of 6 to 8 people. Sometimes there is a minimum number of people needed for an excursion. Sometimes the price varies depending on the number of people.

The memorable and life-enriching activities include walking, mountain biking, stargazing, boat cruises on the Clanwilliam dam, full-day tours into the Cederberg, rock art excursions, rooibos or citrus farm tours, sundowners and so much more.

About The Cederberg

 The Cederberg Mountains lie approx. 2 hours’ drive north of Cape Town and the Winelands. Yet it is like no other area of the Cape. Here there are no manicured gardens, glitzy shops or attractions teeming with tourists. Rather you experience a raw, rugged beauty and a sense of utter peace and tranquillity. But without driving for hours and hours to get it!

As you travel over the Piekenierskloof Pass, you descend into a different world. The countryside has changed. It's wilder and warmer, with raw, dramatic beauty. The Cederberg Mountains, brilliant purple in the late afternoon light, tower over our fruit-filled valley which is laden with the scent of orange blossom in the spring.

It's a natural arena for adventure lovers with great hiking and mountain biking opportunities. However, its stunning mountain passes and landscapes can be equally enjoyed by vehicle. The Cederberg is also known for its beautiful wildflowers in spring, with good rains seeing carpets of flowers in August. Enjoy hiking in the wilderness, swimming in natural rock pools or simply relaxing in one of the most beautiful and peaceful areas of South Africa.
