Offering a front-row seat to the Greater Kruger wilderness, guests can immerse themselves in nature on daily morning game drives or bush walks and night drives in the exclusive Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. Big 5 game drives take place in the early morning and late afternoon/evening, ensuring game sightings at times when the animals are naturally most active. Nocturnal animals, including the big cats, are regular sightings at night. Currently, over 40 mammal species are to be found in the Greater Kruger, including the Big 5 of Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo and Elephant. The area is also a bird watcher's paradise, as many as 360 species of birdlife have been documented here.
Forming part of the Greater Kruger Park, the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is a large (approximately 60, 000 hectares) private reserve with a wide variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, leopards and hyenas that can be seen on morning and afternoon game drives. This area is known as the area where the white lion originates from. They are born in the wild and live in this area, so the gene pool of the white lion is carried within the lions of this area.
The private game reserve lies along the western border of the Kruger National Park with no fencing separating the reserve from the Kruger or the Timbavati, allowing the animals to roam freely between the reserves. The game in both the Kruger Park and the neighbouring reserves is essentially the same, the difference being the game viewing at Klaserie is exclusive and unhurried due to relatively few lodges and vehicles in the area.
